Outreach work in the communities of Exeter, East and Mid Devon
SAFE has a team of outreach workers providing a range of support services to women, men, children and young people in the community.
Outreach workers offer practical and emotional support both face to face and over the phone. They offer resettlement for women who have left the refuge or have escaped domestic violence and abuse from another area. They can identify risks and make safety plans.
The outreach workers provide a range of practical and emotional support:-
- Face to face support - we cannot meet in people's homes, but will find a safe space to meet with a worker.
- Advocacy - accompanying people to solicitors, housing, court etc and contacting other agencies on their behalf if required.
- Helpline – a 24 hour freephone help-line 0800 3283070.
- Resettlement - for women who have left the refuge and those who have escaped domestic violence and abuse from another area.
- Risk Assessment and Safety planning - identifying risks and working towards keeping all those affected by domestic violence and abuse safe.
- Pattern Changing courses (see separate pages for more details).
- Specialist Support for young people.
Referrals to the project can be by any agency (with the person's consent and a safe means of contact obtained) or by the victim themselves.

In addition to the above the following workers provide support through specific referral routes:
Children and Young People's Outreach Worker
- takes referrals through Repair, Multi Agency Risk Assessment Committees (MARACs) and Outreach.
Independent Domestic Violence Advisers (IDVAs)
- support women referred to MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference) and/or who are going through the Specialist Domestic Violence Court.
Young People's Workers
- (for girls and young women ) with a worker in Exeter and another in Mid & East Devon.
Women's Safety Worker: REPAIR
- provides a of a range of support services to women whose male partners/ex partners are on the REPAIR (Resolved to end the perpetration of abuse in relationships) Programme in Exeter.
REPAIR is a group work programme to help abusive men who want to change their attitudes and behaviours. The programme also provides support to their partners, ex partners and children.
The programme works by encouraging the man to acknowledge his behaviour and to take responsibility for it. It teaches him to care for and respect other people. The course shows men the effect their actions have on the people around them.
