Last year we were contacted by a local lady whose mum had years ago received support at our refuge. She shared her moving story with us, and fulfilled a promise to her mum to make a legacy donation to SAFE, in her memory.

Stella fundraised a whopping £1,300 by organising an evening of entertainment at The Exeter Inn, Thorverton. We are so thankful for this generous donation which will go directly to providing services to help women and children recover from the impact of domestic abuse.

Here is Stella's story:

"My mum was an only child, she had 4 children and found herself a victim of domestic violence when we were growing up. The women's refuge helped her at a time when she was very afraid and lonely. Unfortunately, my mum was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer last year and within 6 months she lost her fight. My mum was a very strong and determined lady and even when she was faced with this terrible illness she made me promise to donate money to the women's refuge because she would not of coped without their support. I have raised £1,300 in memory of my mum and would like it to be used to help women and children who find themselves in the same frightening and vulnerable situation as once my dear mum did".

In Loving Memory, Hope and Gratitude.

Thanking Stella, The Exeter Inn, Thorverton, and all who helped to raise money for SAFE in this memorial fundraising event. We are truly touched and grateful.
