Job Information

Stop Abuse for Everyone (SAFE) was established in Exeter in the 1970s as Exeter Women’s Aid and developed a range of respected services to support those affected by domestic violence and abuse (DVA) across Devon. The last year was a challenging one for the charity with the loss of important statutory funding and services. This year however, began with renewed optimism for the future development of the charity. After much hard work and perseverance by trustees and staff, SAFE is now firmly re-established with new leadership, staff and funding streams and is offering a range of established and new services.

The charity has attracted new and skilled trustees with nine members on their hard working and friendly Board. The recent appointment of a new CEO who has a strong background in management and business and who shares the passion for the charity and its work, will steer further development. Working together they have recently produced future strategies and a revised Business Plan.

The charity currently employs eleven staff, has an annual income of under £1m, is financially stable and ready for a new chapter in its life. The current Chair feels that now is the time to retire and we are delighted to be working with SAFE to help them to identify and appoint a new person into the role.

We are looking for someone who shares a passion for the work, its importance and the needs of those affected by DVA. In addition we are looking for experience of managing people and meetings, the ability to analyse financial information, political awareness and leading a strong team to develop exciting potential.

The Trustee role can be very rewarding and enjoyable, offering an opportunity to serve the community whilst learning new skills. The Trustees, led by the Chair, focus on the strategic direction of the charity and ensure its effectiveness and accountability. Day-to-day operational decisions are delegated to the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team.
